Case Study: From “Too Heavy, Too Expensive” to “Lightweight & Cost-Effective” – How We Optimized a Cabinet Design for a US Client

Time: 2026-04-10

The Client’s Pain Point

A US customer approached us with full cabinet drawings. His problem was straightforward: the cabinet was too heavy, making both material cost and shipping cost exceed his budget. He had a design concept but didn’t know how to reduce weight without sacrificing strength. He asked: “Do you have engineering capabilities? Can you help me redesign it?”

Our Solution

As an integrated factory covering extrusion, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, welding, and finishing, we don’t just “manufacture to drawing”. Our engineering team stepped in early and did three things:

Aluminum Frame Weight Reduction

The original design used solid aluminum profiles – heavy and costly. We redesigned it into hollow aluminum extrusions with internal ribs. By adjusting wall thickness and internal support, we cut the frame weight by about 1/3 (approx. 50 kg) while maintaining full strength.软文图片1.jpg

Material Upgrade & Substitution

Beyond the frame, we reviewed side panels, top, bottom, and other components. Based on the application, we recommended thinner yet stronger aluminum alloy sheets, replacing ordinary plates. This further reduced total weight while ensuring rigidity. The final cabinet achieved over 50% total weight reduction.

Integrated Delivery

The client initially only wanted the frame. We proactively offered to deliver the complete finished cabinet – extrusions made by us, sheet metal parts laser‑cut, bent, welded, and assembled by us, stop custom manufacturing. One supplier, no middlemen, factory‑direct pricing.

Results

1.Weight reduction: 50%

2.Cost: both material and shipping costs dropped significantly – total cost well below the client’s original budget

3.Efficiency: one engineering team handled everything from design approval to sample delivery – no communication gaps

4.Follow‑up: the client has adopted the optimized design as their new standard and placed repeat orders

Why we can solve such problems quickly?

1.Factory direct – no traders, no hidden markups.

2.Full process capability – aluminum extrusion, sheet metal, CNC, welding, finishing all in‑house.

3.Design‑in – our engineers get involved at the quoting stage, not after you hear “we can’t make it”.

If your cabinet is also “too heavy, too expensive”, just send us your drawings. We’ll calculate the weight, lower your cost, and deliver a lighter, more economical, and more reliable solution.
